Learning GDAL and Open-Source Tutorials

GDAL is a very useful and robust open source tool set for manipulating raster data sets. Unfortunately, there are only limited resources available to learn the GDAL command line utilities or the associated APIs for Linux and Windows users. Below are some useful websites for learning more about GDAL, open-source geoprocessing applications, and how to apply them.

GDAL.org
Source location for GDAL open source project. Foundational information on command line utilities, API, programming, and open source rasters.  Critical resource.

Max Konig’s Blog on Geoinformatics
A useful blog with many scripting examples on how to process large datasets with open source geomatics tools. One of the best places to learn basic GDAL procedures.
